HAITI RELIEF

UPDATE FROM NORTH CAROLINA CONFERENCE

 NC Conference

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a part of the GBGM, is mobilizing resources and working with its partners to begin direct relief operations in Haiti. UMCOR has a four star rating from Charity Navigator and is one of the only organizations working in Haiti to have an A Plus rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. Please encourage media in your area to list UMCOR as a financially responsible and accountable relief organization on any lists you may be promoting for financial support. 100% of all gifts will support relief efforts in Haiti. Please use the following URL:

www.umcorhaiti.org

In the North Carolina Conference contributions can be made at any United Methodist Church. Write “Haiti” in the memo line or write Advance # 418325. On-line donations can be made at new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor or by calling the Advance office (212-870-3790).

UPDATE FROM THE ELIZABETH CITY DISTRICT OF THE UMC WEBSITE

Haiti Mission Information

The first and most immediate response any of us can make is the financial support needed by the United Methodist Committee on Relief. As you are aware, thanks to our apportioned giving, we are able to insure that one hundred percent of special emergency appeals get to the place of need. You may make a contribution through your local church which your treasurer will forward to the conference office as “Haiti Emergency UMCOR #418325.”

Other responses are forthcoming. Each district in the Annual Conference is being asked to bring supplies to the MERCI center in Goldsboro. The Elizabeth City District is supplying health kits (see below). There are three collection dates: the first collection should be received by January 31 and delivered to MERCI before February 6; the second, by February 21 and delivered before February 27; the third, by March 21 and delivered by March 27.

Collection sites have been established throughout the district to transfer health kits to Goldsboro by the deadlines. They are at Windsor UMC, Mann’s Grocery Store (next to Bethany UMC in Wanchese), and Riverside UMC in Elizabeth City. Volunteers will be needed to transport the kits; if you are willing to assist with the transportation, please ask your pastor to send your contact information to the Reverend Ed Rutenkroger, our District Missions Secretary. Volunteers at the MERCI Center will also be needed from the Elizabeth City District on Saturday, March 27, to inspect, sort, and pack containers for shipping to Haiti.
